“Lifeline”-captain Claus-Peter Reisch has encouraged Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder during the award ceremony of the Bavarian film prize to talking about the refugee rescue in Mediterranean sea. “I’m going to give the Prime Minister my business card and I would be very happy if I get there in a timely manner an invitation, so we can have a real discussion about these things that happen at sea,” said Reisch on Friday evening on the stage at the Prince Regent theatre in Munich. “This has to do with asylum tourism.”
While the audience applauded, the CSU politician in the first row, hardly a impulse. Söder had once spoken with regard to migrants from asylum tourism to the criticism but explains that the term is not in use.
The rescue vessel, the “Lifeline” of the Dresden-based aid organization, Mission, Lifeline was in the summer of 2018 almost a week on the Mediterranean sea, after it had rescued 230 migrants from Libya. Reisch was arraigned in Malta court.
Reisch presented on Friday, Markus Imhof the award for the best documentary film, “Eldorado” on refugee flows. In his speech, he criticized the policies knowing that in the Mediterranean sea to die again and again, refugees in an attempt to come to Europe. Ships would have been blocked, rescuers accused of, this is a “matter of courage”. Reisch, announced a new ship to buy. His organization need the money.
