A most tragic anniversary. On August 31, 1997, Lady Diana lost her life in a car accident in the tunnel passing under the Alma bridge in Paris. With her died Henri Paul, the driver of the vehicle, as well as Dodi Al-Fayed, her lover. On board the vehicle was also Trevor Rees-Jones, the bodyguard of the ex-princess, who was the only survivor of the tragedy.

But the man did not escape unscathed. He had inherited serious head and chest injuries that had left him in a coma for 10 days. Totally disfigured by the accident, the face of the bodyguard had to be reconstructed using 150 titanium pieces on the basis of a portrait of him, reports Gala. Following this event, Trevor Rees-Jones suffered from profound amnesia, such that he could only communicate by whispering or writing.

Today, his face is still scarred. But he turned the page and his life is now very different. Six months after the accident, he returned to work for Mohamed Al-Fayed, Dodi’s father. But he had finally decided to resign to “move on to something else”, underlines the Daily Mail.

Now 54, the man lives with his wife, two children and their dog in a house in Oswertry in his home county of Shropshire. “His life is calm and uneventful now. He’s certainly not looking for publicity or talking about the accident. He’s been trying to move on and get his life back together,” a source close to him told The Sun.
