Lady Diana: photos of her last weeks before the tragedy

By wanting to avoid photographers, Lady Diana and her lover Dodi Al-Fayed have known the worst. On August 31, 1997, the couple rushed into the car waiting for them at the exit of the restaurant L’Espadon du Ritz, located Place Vendôme.

Accompanied by their driver Henri Paul and Al-Fayed’s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, the lovers try to flee the paparazzi in a vehicle that speeds towards the Alma bridge tunnel. At the entrance to the latter, the Mercedes swerves and crashes into the 13th pillar, instantly killing the driver and Lady Diana’s lover.

In the columns of the Daily Mail in 2021, Dr. Monsef Dahman, 33 years old at the time, was entrusted with Lady Diana on her arrival at Pitié-Salpêtrière. “If I remember correctly, it was a fairly calm day. I was resting in the duty room when I received a call from Bruno Riou, the chief duty anesthetist, who told me to go in the emergency room”, he explained and added: “We fought hard (…) We tried a lot of things, really a lot of things”. Transfusions, thoracic drainages, cardiac massages and surgical interventions did not however allow the princess to survive.
