August 31, 2022 will mark 25 years since the death of Princess Lady Diana. At the end of August 1997, the mother of princes William and Harry disappeared at the age of 37 following a road accident which occurred under the Alma bridge in Paris. On board the car, the ex-wife of Prince Charles was with her new companion, Dodi Al-Fayed and their driver, a certain Henri Paul. The three will die as a result of this tragedy.

Transported by ambulance to the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital around 2 a.m., Lady Diana suffered several cardiac arrests as well as internal bleeding following a major wound in the left pulmonary vein. The princess of hearts will die two hours after her arrival. A brutal death that could have been avoided, according to the confidences of an investigator who spoke about the case on the program Good Morning Britain on ITV.

“I am absolutely convinced that this is a terrible and tragic accident in which three people lost their lives,” said police officer David Douglas and added: “When you look at most accidents , you find a chain of events and you see that if any of those events had been different, it might not have led to what happened (….) For example, if the victims had been wearing their seatbelts, our experts tell us there was probably an 80% chance that they survived the crash.”

In the columns of the Mirror, the French firefighter Xavier Gourmelon revealed that he had tried to save the princess, the evening of the tragedy. “I massaged her heart and seconds later she was breathing again. To be honest I thought she would live. It was a real relief because obviously as a rescuer you want to save lives and I thought I did. As far as I know, when she was in the ambulance, she was alive and I expected her to live. But I found out later that she died at the hospital. It was very disturbing,” he said.
