On April 24, 2019, the legendary comedian Jean-Pierre Marielle disappeared at the age of 87. Suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, he left behind his fans, his family, but especially his wife, the actress Agathe Natanson.

“Agathe Marielle is sad to announce that her husband, actor Jean-Pierre Marielle, died on April 24 at 4:24 p.m., at the Quatre Villes hospital in Saint-Cloud following a long illness” , she told AFP. A disease that had an impact on his career, as director Jean-Pierre Mocky had declared to France Info. “He lost a lot of his presence when he had Alzheimer’s disease. We could no longer make him work. We wanted to make him work as late as possible and we were forced to stop”, had- he explains.

Invited to Faustine Bollaert and Michel Cymes’ program, Voyage to the center of memory in September 2021, actress Agathe Natanson had spoken of the consequences of her illness on their relationship. Indeed, her husband had become aggressive because of his illness. “It’s true that it was becoming dangerous for me, because all of a sudden he saw me as someone else, someone who wanted to attack him, so he might want to attack me”, she had explained. A complex situation which had prompted him to place the actor in a specialized establishment.

“It was just a year and a half of horror that he was in this house,” she said and added: “It was a small death. I died a little that day”. Jean-Pierre Marielle now rests in the family vault of the Précy-le-Sec cemetery in Yonne.
