While the 74-year-old star had made a remarkable appearance at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival in August 2021, she was also expected at the Deauville Festival. Unfortunately, Charlotte Gainsbourg’s mother was unable to attend the festival as her family had announced to AFP.
The star “suffered a mild form of stroke a few days ago (…) She is doing well, so her loved ones want us to respect the tranquility necessary for her recovery. In order to fully recover, Serge Gainsbourg’s ex-companion could not honor “all her activities (including the three concerts she was to give at the Philharmonie de Paris on September 18, 19 and 20) are therefore postponed. at a later date”.
This is not the first time that the Gainsbourg-Birkin family has been affected by tragedy. In 2007, Charlotte Gainsbourg had also suffered a stroke for which she underwent emergency surgery. “Pulled by a jet ski that was going too fast, I fell and hit the water which, from a certain speed, is as hard as concrete,” she told Equipe Magazine and add: “I had 150 ml of blood in my head, I narrowly escaped death”.
In an interview with Le Parisien, Jane Birkin spoke about her stroke and in particular the impact for those close to her. “It was especially difficult for my loved ones to live with. Me, I knew that I was in good hands, in places that ultimately I really like,” she said and added: “Intensive care, I know by heart, the French public hospitals are brilliant, the nurses adorable. In Nantes, where I stayed for a good month, they were great, I had more fun than at home, “she explained.
More recently, the star made a remarkable appearance at the César ceremony on February 24, 2023 as well as during the Enfoirés tour in Lyon. A performance filmed and broadcast on TF1 which however raised questions about his state of health. On March 2, 2023, when she was to perform a concert in Plougastel-Daoulas, Charlotte Gainsbourg’s daughter had to cancel her visit due to an injury. “I’m not well at all, I broke my shoulder blade and I’m in a lot of pain,” she told Le Télégramme newspaper.
