The first cohort of 400 Steelworkers at IOC Mining accepted 84% of the employer’s final offer.

The new contract includes an 8.9% wage increase in the first year, said the union, which is affiliated with the FTQ in Quebec.

There will also be a $2,500 bonus upon signing the new collective agreement.

Similarly, a “flexibility bonus”, which was $1.25 per hour, is increased to $2 per hour.

For the second year, the salary increase will reach 2.2% and 2.75% for the third year.

A first agreement in principle had been rejected by all union members. Then, the parties returned to the negotiating table to arrive at this final offer, which was not, however, an agreement in principle. This proposal had nevertheless received a favorable opinion from the union.

Thus, the first of the three locals of the United Steelworkers union approved it, by a proportion of 84%.

The remaining 1,500 workers, members of two other Steelworker locals, will vote on the offer early this week.
