Insecurity: the most “dangerous” cities in France

Is the country increasingly plagued by insecurity? The statistics, in any case, are without appeal. In 2021, the Ministry of the Interior recorded a sharp increase in intentional assault and battery (12%), such as sexual violence (33%) in the territory.

Only thefts seem to have decreased (-2% for thefts with a weapon, and -6% for violent thefts without a weapon).

And if overall, most French people feel threatened by an increasingly violent climate, not all municipalities are treated in the same boat, according to the figures.

In our slideshow, discover the 10 French cities with 20,000 to 100,000 inhabitants which are the most “dangerous”, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior and the classification of Figaro.

Conversely, some cities seem particularly well equipped to deal with crime. According to the Beauvau report, here are those where we recorded the fewest “intentional blows and injuries” in 2021:

On the burglary side, we note, in the list of the most exposed cities, that the outskirts of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) take pride of place.

As for the cities of 20,000 to 100,000 inhabitants in which crime has probably exploded since 2017 (20%), we note, at the top of the ranking, Vienne (Isère), Roubaix (Nord), Bergerac (Dordogne) and Ivry-sur -Seine (Val-de-Marne).
