(Montreal) Mary Spencer was forced to withdraw from the Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) boxing gala scheduled for Thursday at the Casino de Montreal cabaret, due to a hand injury.
EOTTM officials made the announcement early Monday morning in a press release. They clarified that she was injured during her last sparring session.
Spencer (7-1, 5 KO) was scheduled to face Brazilian Adriana Dos Santos Araujo (6-1, 1 KO) in a preliminary bout to the evening’s final, between Christian Mbilli (23-0, 20 KO) and the Ecuadorian Carlos Gongora (21-1, 16 KOs).
Spencer, a 38-year-old Ontarian, had won her first seven professional fights in her career, five of them by first knockout. She suffered her only defeat in her most recent fight, losing by decision to Belgium’s Femke Hermans on December 16 in Shawinigan.
Spencer and her team will follow the recommendations of specialists so that she can recover and return to action when deemed appropriate when everything is healed, EOTTM officials added. Thursday’s gala now has eight fights.
