Industry and Government propose to extend the period of consultation in San Cibrao until 27 September

The Ministry of Industry and the Xunta de Galicia have been put on the table its proposal to Alcoa, in a meeting in which they have been representatives of both administrations, headed by secretary general of Industry Raul Blanco and minister of Economy of the Xunta of Galicia, by Francisco Conde next to leaders of UGT-FICA, Workers ‘ Commissions and IGC . In particular, both administrations have been proposed to ensure the maintenance of the industrial activity in Alcoa San Cibrao and jobs, that extend up to the 28 of September the consultation period of the record of employment regulation (ERE). In this period, Alcoa will negotiate the purchase and sale of the factory with GFG Alliance (Liberty House) and maintain the activity of the plant.

Government and regional Government have also proposed that, during this process, Alcoa report regularly to both administrations and to the trade union representation of the “evolution of the negotiations.” For which, in the framework of a table of industry, shall constitute a commission formed by a representative of the regional Government, the Ministry of Industry of Comisiones Obreras, another of UGT and representative of IGC; as well as one of each force union representation on the committee of company of Alcoa San Cibrao.

In any case, the proposal of both administrations will be forwarded to the committee of company and Alcoa for their acceptance. To do this, you will need to meet the special negotiating body (Alcoa + committee of the company) to give the “yes” – formal. A body that will have margin to be called until the Thursday, August 13 .

From Industry and the Government have stressed that the extension of the period of consultation is “focus priority” to close a sale-purchase agreement of San Cibrao with deadline September 27. Not materialize, the proposal of both administrations is that the negotiating committee (Alcoa and the company committee) will meet on September 28 to end the period of consultations.

Both Industry and the Government has highlighted its commitment for the sale of the plant to have the maximum certainty and the “the good faith of the committee of company and Alcoa” to return to dialogue and negotiation and added that a longer time-frame demonstrates this commitment by reaching an understanding.

In particular, this meeting have also gone the responsible for Industrial Policy and Sectoral working Commissions of Industry, José Manuel Casado, the secretary general of UGT, FICA, Peter Leaves and the secretary general of the IGC Paulo Lane, next to the president of Alcoa Spain Álvaro Dorado.
