A 23-year-old woman was brutally attacked and seriously injured on a forest path in Schermbeck (Wesel district).

The Duisburg public prosecutor’s office considers Monday evening’s crime to be an attempted murder, according to a joint statement from the police and public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday. A homicide squad has been set up.

According to the “Bild” newspaper, a man attacked the young student and stabbed her. Afterwards, the seriously injured 23-year-old was apparently able to call the emergency services herself.

There was initially no information about a possible suspect. Investigators examined the crime scene, secured evidence and questioned witnesses. Anyone who saw anything suspicious should contact the police.
