Fox News Digital’s Bob Barnes describes his journey thus far: “It’s almost like a large neighborhood.”

An ex-Uber driver is currently visiting all 50 U.S. states capitals – by riding a bicycle.

Bob Barnes, 52, of Syracuse, New York began his trip on August 1, 2021. He called it the “Great American Triple Switchback” and said he hopes to complete the trip in one-year.

Barnes had ridden 7,900 miles as of Thursday afternoon and had visited 26 capitals. Washington, D.C.

Barnes stated, “It’s amazing to be out there and just have all these experience and every single small town, every state.”
Barnes stated that he went on the trip to raise awareness about blood donation and to push himself to complete his personal challenge of cycling all 50 states capitals.

He also said that he wanted to see the country in its actual form.

Fox reported that he called it “real reality” “As opposed the TV and internet content.”

He said, “I consider myself an adventurer.” “I love exploring and seeing things for myself.

He also said that he was inspired by a similar trip that he did several years back, when he cycled approximately 5,800 miles across the country.

Barnes stated, “I was awestruck. It was so eye-opening.” “I wanted it to be done again, so I came back out here.”

Although he said that his first trip was more mental, he now faces more physical challenges.

He said, “The weather’s been difficult.” The mountains are difficult. When I reached Denver it was windy and cold. It’s amazing, though.

Barnes’ journey involves cycling to all 50 states capitals. However, he has tried to give back along the way.

On Saturday, he said he would donate blood for the third consecutive time since his trip began. He also volunteered in the communities he visited on Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Barnes posts daily updates about his journey on his Facebook page, BibberyTravels. He also posts photos of each state capital and other experiences.

Fox reported that he likes to keep the conversation interactive. “I like to keep things lighthearted.”

Barnes claims that his trip is “like a reality show in real-time” on his GoFundMe page “Great American Triple Switchback”.

“I am required to report to you the follower three times per day, promptly showing and discussing what ‘we’ have observed.” It’s an enjoyable, lighthearted and interactive experience,” Barnes wrote.

He explained that “we” are basically touring the whole United States on a fieldtrip and that he is the guide.
Barnes stated to FOX Television Stations he rides 44 miles per day and sleeps in his tent at truck stops and parks overnight.
Barnes told the outlet that he will bike to Juneau Alaska after taking a ferry to it from Canada. According to the outlet, he will bike to Honolulu Hawaii after flying with his bicycle to the island.

Fox News Digital’s Barnes said that the trip was essentially like riding around a neighborhood.

Barnes stated, “It’s everything that you imagine it to be if it’s all you want it to be. If you hop on a bicycle and pedal around the country, it’s exactly what it is.” It’s amazing. It’s almost like a large neighborhood. It’s the country that is the neighborhood.

Barnes stated that he hopes to inspire others to pursue their passions.

He said, “I just want to encourage people to follow their dreams.” No matter what your passion is, don’t listen to others. It’s your passion. If that’s what makes you happy, find a reason to do it.
