A fiscal stamp guarantees the payment of a tax to a French administration. It can be useful for several purposes, as Ooreka points out:

Formerly available at tobacconists, the tax stamp must now be purchased online, in electronic form.

An electronic tax stamp is valid for up to twelve months after the date of payment. But can it be refunded to you if you don’t use it within the time limit? According to the official website of the Ministry of the Economy, reimbursement is possible within 18 months of the date of purchase.

“For all stamps purchased since September 12, 2019, still unused and unreimbursed as of March 12, 2020, the validity and reimbursement dates have been extended by 6 months”, explains the tax administration.

To get a refund, you must go to timbres.impots.gouv.fr and enter, among other things, the stamp number and the transaction reference. However, the bank account used during the purchase of the tax stamp must always be open. It will therefore take a few days to receive the money in your bank account!
