According to a source, the restructure voids that the last period of this deal Cooks signed together with all the Los Angeles Rams at 2018, meaning he’ll now be a free agent after the 2022 season.
NFL Network initially reported that Cooks’ contract has been restructured. Ahead of the restructure, Cooks had a cap hit of $12 million in 2021 but didn’t have any guaranteed cash left on his contract.
The restructure guarantees Cooks’ salary in 2021 and provides $1 million into the contract during the next two seasons.
Cooks is coming off his fifth year with over 1,000 receiving yards. The recipient, who’s playing his fourth team in seven seasons, had 81 grabs for 1,150 yards and six touchdowns in his first season in Houston.
Along with Cooks, the Texans have 2020 fifth-round select Isaiah Coulter and slot recipients Randall Cobb and Keke Coutee below contract.
Wide receiver May Fuller was playing his fifth-year choice before he had been suspended in November. Houston didn’t use the franchise tag on Fuller, therefore he’ll be an unrestricted free agent once the new league season starts next week.
