In France, the heat wave is slowly ending. At least, on all or part of the country, since the heat wave should continue on the South-East of the nation, indicates Le Figaro in collaboration with La Chaîne Météo. However, it is important to remember that 23 departments are still placed in orange vigilance and that yellow vigilance remains in force for 44 others. The temperature peak was particularly intense, since 63 municipalities saw old records fall, notes Ouest-France.

From now on, informs Le Parisien, it is the storms that worry the meteorological organization, even if it reiterates some of the warnings already expressed in the past. “A heatwave episode requiring special attention due to its intensity and duration”, could we read on the bulletin of Wednesday July 20, 2022. In detail, 16 departments were placed in orange vigilance for thunderstorms and 39 in yellow vigilance.

It is clear, alas, that the heat wave that has just hit France was not the first. Unfortunately, it won’t be the last either. The frequency of heat waves should even double by 2050, recalls the specialized newspaper Reporterre. In the past, scientists already warned of such risks, as did climatologist Valérie Masson Delmotte, quoted by our colleagues. “The June 2019 event would have had a remote probability of occurring in a pre-industrial climate. Each increment of additional warming will continue to increase the frequency and intensity of hot extremes,” she said on Twitter.

The reality of the danger has, it seems, been identified by urban architects, as Le Parisien explains. They consider a number of solutions. The list in our slideshow below.
