(Ottawa) Real gross domestic product (GDP) edged up 0.1% in February in Canada.
In January, the Canadian economy grew more, by 0.6%.
Statistics Canada notably observed increases in February in services such as education, health care, social assistance, public administration as well as professional, scientific and technical services.
The construction sector advanced for a fifth consecutive month, up 0.3% in February.
In contrast, retail trade fell 0.5% in February, registering its first drop in three months. The 5.3% decline in service station activity contributed the most to the decline.
Advance information collected by Statistics Canada indicates that real GDP edged down 0.1% in March and real GDP by industry increased 0.6% in the first quarter of 2023. These estimates will be revised by the agency. federal on May 31.
