Fuel Shortage: The Best Apps for Finding Gasoline

Faced with the shortages of gasoline that are still rife following strikes in the refineries, the population is organizing. In particular, an -illegal- traffic in the resale of jerrycans seems to be established, especially on Snapchat.

But resellers aren’t the only ones turning to technology to get their way. Since the beginning of the crisis, many sites and applications aimed at informing consumers about the supply and prices of gas stations have emerged. And it’s a great success: according to a tweet from BFMTV journalist Anthony Morel, applications listing available fuels would overtake Amazon and Tiktok in the ranking of the most downloaded applications of the moment in France.

The responsiveness of price updates and shortages is crucial to the effectiveness of these sites. However, given the number of gas stations and the volatility of prices, it is very difficult for a single contributor to provide up-to-date information in real time for the whole of France. Moreover, according to actu.fr, the government site would not be among the most recommended, given that the updates seem to be late.

Participatory data collection systems therefore seem more suited to the situation. This way of doing things is not totally innovative: indeed, sites like Trip Advisor, platforms listing restaurants, accommodations or others, use the opinions published by their users for their rankings, for example.

In this case, motorists simply have to enter the prices displayed at the petrol stations they pass through. Planet has listed for you the main sites and applications that can help you find gasoline at the cheapest possible price. It should be noted that, for maximum reliability, it is preferable to cross your sources and use several applications, before making the trip and consuming even more gasoline in vain…
