An excessively mild winter, a summer-like month of March… As the month of April is fast approaching, a new cold snap and the return of morning frosts are expected for the week of March 27, 2023, especially Monday and Tuesday. According to the forecasts of La Chaîne Météo, “it is in the plains and valleys of the northeast and Auvergne that the frosts will be the most marked with -2 to -4°C, locally -5°C. Elsewhere , from the northern plains to the central regions and the Provençal hinterland, temperatures will generally be between 0 and -2°C”.
A cold snap that could have serious consequences on the vegetation and the growth of young fruit trees. “It should be noted that the frosts at the end of March are absolutely nothing exceptional, but in a context of a warming climate, the flowering of fruit trees is happening earlier and earlier with a risk of damage during sudden descents of cold air in early spring”, specifies the forecaster.
