Robin Goff Austin posted photos to Facebook from a gator she saw at Myakka State park. The large animal was sat near the river’s banks, still and holding a small fish in its mouth.
“The gator just sat there. He didn’t move all the time I was watching him and taking photos. Austin said that he never moved.” Austin spoke to Fox 13 Tampa. “I suppose gator was cold. “I caught this fish, and I didn’t know what to make of him.”
Austin believes the fish in the gator’s mouth was a snook. She wrote on Facebook that she loves this fish.
Florida’s average temperature was lower than Florida’s, which means that it is likely that the gator was cold-stunned. If cold-blooded animals are exposed for long periods to cold temperatures and water, it can lead to slowing down and inactivity.
Florida is home to many alligators.
Fox News reported in January that a group dragged a gator across a golf course.
Mike Murphy captured the moment at the Tara Gold and Country Club, Bradenton. A group of golfers and Murphy witnessed the gator emerge out of one of the courses’ lakes.
The gator then moved along the course to one of the other lakes. Evidently, the gator had to bring its lunch on the trip.
