This dream has come true for Joe and Jess Thwaite, a British couple who have just pocketed 184,262,899 pounds, or nearly 217 million euros. According to information from Le Parisien, this jackpot is the biggest ever won in the United States! The previous record was reached in 2017 by an anonymous player who won the very nice sum of 170 million pounds.
It all started on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, when Joe Thwaite checked his emails when he woke up. “There were some saying that I had won a prize. I opened the app, I logged in, then I looked at the amount. I put the phone down, picked it up and I I looked at the amount again. At first I thought it was in the thousands…”, he said on the set of a television program, translated by the Ile-de-France daily.
Respectful of his wife’s sleep, Joe wisely waited until she woke up to tell her the wonderful news. Working with her mother and sister, Jess struggled to hold her tongue. “I was on my way to work (…) I can’t lie to them, I asked Joe if I could talk to them about it. When I told my mother about it, she screamed and melted into tears,” she says.
The couple speak of a great relief, especially in relation to the bills which accumulate and their small financial problems “like all normal families”. The lovebirds plan, above all, to afford the house of their dreams. “Now we have no more limits, no more need to put a filter”, breathes Joe Thwaite.
