EU has enough vaccines to reach 70% of July’s goal

According to the European Union, it has sufficient doses to reach its goal of vaccination 70% of the region’s adult population before the end of the month.

As infections are rising in Europe, the next challenge is to ensure that doses are being taken, since there is less demand in certain areas. The European Centre for Disease Control reports that 44% of adults in the EU are fully vaccinated and 64% have had at least one dose.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated Saturday that 500 million doses would have been distributed to all 27 member countries by Sunday. She encouraged member countries to do everything possible to improve vaccinations.

According to the ECDC, 386 million doses have been administered by EU countries so far for 447 million people. Although Europe has a more sophisticated vaccination campaign than the rest of the world, it is still slow. Only 17% of Bulgarian adults have received their first dose, compared to 81% in Belgium.

The delta variant of the flu is spreading faster in France than vaccines, and infection rates are increasing again after weeks of decline. The President Emmanuel Macron will speak Monday to the nation about the situation. Government could also opt for new restrictions.

Many people wanted to go back to the club La Bellevilloise, which was very popular. Parisian Laurent Queige described it as “a liberation”, a great joy to rediscover clubbing, partying, and friends.

Renaud Barillet, owner of La Bellevilloise, said that this weekend could be a good test to see how the organizers and the public react and adopt new habits.

All attendees must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.
