(Calgary) Unifor announces that representatives of its energy sector locals have ratified a tentative agreement that establishes a model for negotiations for more than 7,500 workers.
These are part of the union’s National Energy Program. The agreement concerns local sections of several terminals and refineries across the country, including those located east of Montreal.
In a press release issued Friday, Unifor indicates that it has reached a three-year agreement with Suncor.
To complete the process, local unions will complement the national model by negotiating on specific local issues.
According to Unifor National President Lana Payne, the negotiations were difficult.
The director of Unifor Quebec, Daniel Cloutier, mentions that the model will allow members “to use their collective power to negotiate with energy giants to increase the wages of workers across the sector.”
