Electricity bill: who is affected by the 100 euro discount from Engie?

While energy stocks are shrinking, prices keep rising. Indeed, on Sunday June 26, 2022, the leaders of TotalEnergies, EDF and Engie warned, in a joint forum published in the Journal du Dimanche, of the risks of a shortage of energy and an outbreak of price next winter.

“Soaring energy prices […] threaten our social and political cohesion and have a too heavy impact on the purchasing power of families”, they explained, calling for “awareness and collective and individual action to that each of us – each consumer, each company – change their behavior and immediately limit their consumption of energy, electricity, gas and petroleum products”.

Today, inflation is indeed a reality, both in the field of energy and in a large part of consumer products. Thus, to mitigate the impact of rising prices on purchasing power, companies and the government are adopting measures.

The director general of Engie Catherine MacGregor announced, in the columns of Le Parisien, a discount of one hundred euros for all customers benefiting from the energy check.

As a reminder, this state aid is aimed at the most modest households considered to be in a situation of fuel poverty, i.e. more than 10% of their budget is devoted to paying energy bills.

This discount will therefore concern 880,000 people. It will be for an average amount of 100 euros per customer and should take shape in November. For the boss of Engie, “it is above all a citizen gesture, to help our customers.”
