(Edmonton) The Edmonton Oilers placed their goaltender Jack Campbell on waivers on Tuesday, and if he is not claimed, he will report to their American Hockey League farm club.
Campbell is 1-4-0 with a 4.50 ERA and .873 save percentage in five appearances in net for the Oilers this season.
The 31-year-old veteran has gone 22-13-4 with a 3.53 GAA and .886 save percentage since signing a five-year, $25 million contract with the Oilers heading into the 2022-23 season.
If Campbell reports to the Bakersfield Condors, then Stuart Skinner will technically become the Oilers’ #1 goaltender.
Skinner, however, is having his share of difficulties this season, with a 1-4-1 record, a 3.99 GAA and a .856 save percentage in seven appearances in front of the Alberta cage.
Skinner was in net for Monday night’s 6-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, and he allowed six goals on 36 shots he faced.
The move comes as the Oilers sit second-to-last in the Western Conference at 2-8-1, just ahead of the San Jose Sharks.
The Sharks, who still have not tasted a victory before their Tuesday night game against the Philadelphia Flyers, will face the Oilers on Thursday.
