Despite a very wet month of March, the water tables are still in danger. During a press briefing on Thursday April 13, 2023, the Geological and Mining Research Bureau (BRGM) announced that 75% of them showed a level below normal in March, compared to 80% in February.
While this increase is encouraging, the figures remain alarming compared to those of last year: at the same period, in 2022, only 56% of groundwater was in difficulty. “From April, the recharge episodes should remain punctual and not very intense, except for exceptional rainfall events. For the next few months, the 2022-2023 recharge deficit is likely to impact all the aquifers”, specifies the establishment.
