This Tuesday, April 25, 2023, Rodrigue Furcy, prefect of the Pyrénées-Orientales, received the water resources savings plan prepared by the territories and professional sectors impacted by the drought. The actors concerned prepared a summary on the use of water in the Pyrénées-Orientales and proposed measures to remedy the drought.

Following the reading of this work, during the press conference on Tuesday April 25, Rodrigue Furcy announced that a drought committee will be held on Thursday afternoon and “decisions will be taken at that time”, reports L ‘Independent.

Tuesday, April 25, 2023, the prefect of Pyrénées-Orientales recalled that “the situation is extremely tense, the amount of water available is low. […] This month of April is the driest since 1959.” Faced with this situation, “186 municipalities have committed” to respecting a municipal commitment charter presented on April 11.

During the press conference on Tuesday, the commitments already made by the professional sectors were detailed. Among other things, the open-air hotel industry is committed to saving 500,000 m3 of water; water parks to a 50% reduction in consumption and the reuse of the other 50%… Other measures will follow on Thursday 26 April.
