The ALMA observatory, located in the Atacama desert (Chile)has discovered the galaxy’s spinning disk, like the Milky Way, most distant ever detected. The galaxy was formed 1,500 million years after the Big Bang, when our Universe, which already has 13.800 million years ago, was still very young. And it is extraordinarily productive: creating stars at a rate ten times greater than ours. The finding challenges the traditional models of galaxy formation, because it’s supposed to grow gradually, reaching its large mass relatively late. The researchers believe that there may be many more like this.
