Diego Piris, the new champion of Cantabria Optimist disputed in the Bay of Laredo

Diego Piris Quintela, belonging to the Royal Maritime Club of Santander is the new champion of Cantabria-class sailing Optimist. It has been raised with the title in the Championship of Cantabria Optimist-Cup Cantabrian held on 14 and 15 July in waters of the Bay of Laredo. The test has been organised by the Real Club Náutico de Laredo in collaboration with the Federation of Cantabria Sailing.The podium was completed by Guillermo Hidalgo Villanueva and Candela Escobedo Fernandez, also members of the Real Club Maritimo de Santander, which belong to the first ten classified.

A total of 28 sailors have taken part in this competition, the second of its kind that is disputed in waters of cantabrian after the alarm state. The participants, from the Real Club Marítimo de Santander, the Club de Vela of Santoña and the Real Club Náutico de Laredo. The evidence on Tuesday 14 and today, July 15.

Development testing

The classification of the Championship of Cantabria Optimist decided on a program of 6 tests, 3 of them held on Tuesday 14 July and 3 this Wednesday, 15. The day’s final this Wednesday the tests have been developed with Northwest winds 6 to 8 knots, smoothly and quickly. The victory of the young I Say Piris, of 13 years, has been clean and have not registered claims or incidents in the development of the championship. Piris has accumulated 11 points, 14 the second-ranked, and 20 the third classified. Candela Escobedo was tied on points with fourth-placed, but by having registered a first place in the first race of the championship, concludes the competition taking third place. The fourth was Juan Salas Ceballos.

Participation in the Championship of Spain

The Championship of Cantabria is scoring for the ranking of the class and the qualifier for the Spanish Championship which will be held between the coming July 27 to August 2, in Águilas, Murcia, where the Federation of Cantabria Sailing shall send to 6 sailors representing Cantabria.With the title of champion of Cantabria, Diego Piris obtained by both the pass to that competition, along with five other young cantabrians sailors who have taken part in the test.

on the other hand, the next Thursday and Friday will be held the Championship of Cantabria by teams, also in the waters of the Bay of Laredo.
