(Denver) The Denver Broncos have decided to part ways with kicker Brandon McManus, the last player on the team to win the Super Bowl 50.

McManus, 31, announced his departure on social media shortly before the Broncos made it official.

McManus ended his nine-year career with the Broncos as the second-leading scorer in team history (946 points). He had 42 field goals of 50 or more yards, a club record in the regular season and in the playoffs.

“Brandon has been a key player and presence with the Broncos for nearly a decade, making an outstanding contribution to our team and our community,” Broncos general manager George Paton said in a statement.

“Becoming one of the most productive kickers in the NFL, Brandon has made many game-winning punts for the organization over the years as a Super Bowl winner and team captain. »

“He will always hold a special place in our history. We thank Brandon for all he has done for the Broncos and wish him and his family the best for the future. »

McManus kicked 223 of 274 in the regular season, while hitting 96.9% of his converts. His combined percentage (82%) in the regular season and in the playoffs is the second best mark in club history behind kicker Matt Prater (82.9%).

McManus was perfect in the playoffs that followed the 2015 regular season, making 10 kick attempts and three converts. He had three field goals when Peyton Manning and the Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 at the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, 2016, for the club’s third championship.

The Broncos have not made the playoffs since that time. Since 2017, they have never won more than seven games per campaign.

The team finished last season with a 5-12 record, during quarterback Russell Wilson’s first season with the Broncos.
