Winter has arrived. After a year 2022 marked by recurring heat episodes and extreme drought, the month of December will be synonymous with polar cold and snowflakes. According to La Chaîne Météo’s four-week trend, the last month of the year will be split into two distinct periods.

The first fortnight will see the cold get worse, due to the descent of very cold air coming straight from northern Europe. “If the weather over France is driven both by cold air located at the level of the English Channel and by depressions over the Iberian Peninsula, it is difficult to date to identify one scenario rather than another. This contrast should nevertheless end with a descent of generalized cold air from the weekend”, explains the site specializing in meteorology.

On the other hand, the second fortnight will be marked by a general mild spell. It will therefore be necessary to expect a very pleasant mildness for the end of the year celebrations, although the feeling could be humid in the north of France.

“The weather will sometimes be foggy in the plains, sunny in the mountains, with however some slight disturbances which could circulate to the northwest. The air mass will soften with temperatures which will exceed the seasonal norms for Christmas. We could even envisage, in the south, a Christmas on the balcony”, concludes the forecaster.
