According to INSEE, nearly 18 million French people are single. Although being single is not a question of age, more than half of single people are 50 and over. A trend that can be explained by the growing number of divorces, by the difficulty of meeting people but also, tragically, by the death of a spouse. There are more and more single people aged 50 and over. “This will represent 20 million people by 2030”, explains Gaëlle Moal, teacher-researcher in marketing attached to the Higher Institute of Electronics and Digital Technology in Brest and the Laboratory of Economics and Management of West, to our colleagues around the world.
After 50, it can be complicated to create opportunities to meet new people. Particularly, when you are not part of a club or association and you are not a club lover. Dating sites can then overcome this difficulty. They are responsible for connecting singles of the same age, living in the same region and sharing common interests.
From a certain age, the level of requirement of singles increases: registering on a dating site can therefore avoid investing with people who do not share the same tastes or the same vision of the couple.
The EliteRencontre site conducted a study of 390 single people over the age of 60. 55% of respondents say that dating sites are the best way to meet new people over 60.
