Americans Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe will accompany Félix Auger-Aliassime in Team World’s bid to defend their title at the Laver Cup, to be held in Vancouver later this year.
The two best players from the United States and the Quebecer are among the six players who will make up the team led by John McEnroe. They took part in last year’s Laver Cup conquest in London, where Team World took the measure of Team Europe – in what was Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer’s last competition.
Auger-Aliassime, 22, was the first player to be selected by McEnroe last February.
Fritz and Tiafoe are No. 10 and No. 12 respectively in the singles rankings, while Auger-Aliassime is ninth.
The Laver Cup will take place September 22-24 in Vancouver, and will pit the top six players from Europe against the top six players from around the world.
The three highest-ranked players from each team, as of the Monday following Wimbledon, will earn an invite to this competition, while the other three are the captains’ discretionary picks.
