The seventh epidemic wave of Covid-19 continues to rise during the French summer holidays. According to the Covid Tracker site, the evolution of the number of deaths attributed to Covid has been skyrocketing for a week, in certain departments. It is reported as of Sunday July 3, 2022, in France, of 277 deaths in seven days. This corresponds to an increase of 16.9% more compared to last week.

At the origin of the seventh wave, the appearance of two new strains of the Omicron variant, BA.4 and BA.5, more contagious than the main strain. For infectious disease specialist Benjamin Davido, on BFMTV, “the mask must be worn by everyone, he explains, the recommendation is no longer enough, because the mask is the law of all or nothing. If we want it to be useful, it is to reduce the circulation of the virus.”

The new Minister of Health, François Braun, called for everyone to respect barrier gestures on France Inter to counter the resurgence of the epidemic. “In stations, in airports, we wear a mask”. However, no national measure has been taken to make its wearing compulsory throughout the country. Although, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, has taken a decree to make wearing a mask compulsory in public transport.

A necessity because, in multiple departments, the number of deaths has drastically increased in seven days, according to the Covid Tracker site. Find out which ones in our slideshow below.
