Covid-19 and the eighth wave: signs that should worry you

The authorities are worried, there is no doubt. On Friday September 9, 2022, the Minister of Health did not hesitate to say it out loud, in front of the microphones of BFMTV Marseille. Questioned by our colleagues, he explained that it would be necessary in particular “to appeal to the responsibility of our fellow citizens”. “We are going to have an eighth wave, so we have to be vigilant,” said François Braun again. Several indicators allow the Minister – and, in general, the competent authorities – to sound the alarm. For now, the executive has not mentioned any potential restrictions to limit the progression of the epidemic. Already at the start of the school year, the government had preferred not to put back in place some of the devices (wearing a mask, for example) which have been able to punctuate the lives of French women and men over the past two years. At the time, continue our colleagues, the moderate circulation of the virus did not necessarily require more. However, experts feared an epidemic rebound as soon as autumn arrived…

To limit the risk of an epidemic resumption – and therefore, potentially, the restrictions that could be put in place to combat it -, the French have certain levers. The barrier gestures, repeated and hammered by the previous executive, are obviously part of it.

Naturally, it is also necessary to isolate oneself in the event of contamination with the Covid-19 coronavirus.
