The start of the school year escapes no one, not even the Covid-19. As the threat of an eighth wave threatens France, the numbers all seem to be down since last week.

In its epidemiological update published on Thursday, September 1, 2022, the National Public Health Agency notes “a decrease in the incidence rate in all regions”, “a falling incidence rate in most age groups and up slightly in the under-10s”, as well as a “continuing decline in hospital admission rates in most regions”.

Quoted by Capital, Marco Cavaleri, head of vaccine strategy at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), warns, however: “There could be a whole new variant emerging that we are not able to predict today”. But how are variants created, exactly?

According to Radio France, there is no precise origin of a variant: it is a mutation that is created during the reproduction of the virus in the body and a variant appears. “However, the researchers are studying the hypothesis that immunocompromised people may present a more favorable ground for the development of these mutations”, specify our colleagues.
