(Los Angeles) The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a contract extension with two-time NBA Championship Series MVP KAwhi Leonard, the California team announced Wednesday.

The team did not specify the duration or value of the new pact.

Leonard is in the third year of a four-year contract ratified in 2021 which allowed him to pocket a base salary of US$45,640,084 this season. He has an option for the fourth year of his contract that could pay him $48,787,676.

“We are happy to be able to continue our adventure with Kawhi,” said President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank in a press release. He improved our dealership as soon as he arrived. We are fortunate that Kawhi chose to join the Clippers five years ago, and we are happy that he can continue to help us progress. »

Leonard is averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 offensive rebounds and 3.4 assists. The 32-year-old is also reliable; he played in 32 of his team’s 36 games this season. He recently returned to action after missing four games with a hip injury.

The Clippers were fourth in the Western Conference with a 23-13 record heading into Wednesday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors, his former team with which he won the championship in 2019.

Leonard also won the NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014.

Paul George, who joined the Clippers at the same time as Leonard in 2019, is also eligible for a contract extension.
