Cirque du Soleil announced on Wednesday a partnership with the Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii, to present a resident show there.
The acrobatic show produced by Hawaiian Aaron J. Salā is scheduled to premiere in December 2024. It will focus on the culture of the islands. The musicians and dancers will be from Hawaii.
The two companies will transform the 20,000 square foot performance space at the Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber hotel, which hosted the Magic of Polynesia show.
“The necessary permits to start renovations and create a theater with nearly 800 seats, equipped with a state-of-the-art audiovisual system, are in the process of being obtained,” Cirque wrote in a press release. G70 is the architectural firm responsible for the project, it is based in Hawaii.
The name and creative concept of the show, the director, as well as the dates for the on-sale of tickets will be announced in the coming months.
Le Cirque presents a permanent show in Playa del Carmen, Joyà, centered on Mexican culture. But it is presented in an independent performance hall. For this partnership, Cirque will be able to draw inspiration from its experience in Las Vegas where its permanent shows are all presented in hotel-casinos.
