Christmas: the 10 smiles to identify to know if your loved ones liked your gifts

Ecstasy, surprise, embarrassment, disappointment… On the morning of December 25, there are many feelings that can be recognized at the foot of the Christmas tree. Although they are chosen with love and attention by our loved ones, our Christmas gifts do not always fill us with happiness… As evidenced by the latest Rakuten barometer, which tells us that no less than 41% of French people have resold at least one of their presents in 2021. The reasons are various: 32% did not appreciate the object offered, 23% already had it in their possession, and 16% received a gift of the wrong size.

And yet! It’s hard to tell your aunt, your father or even your best friend that you don’t really appreciate the gift he’s giving you. Conversely, it is sometimes difficult to judge what someone close to you sincerely thinks of the present you have just given them… Unless you are a communication expert like Edoardo Binda Zane, interviewed by the company specializing in gifts personalized photos ifolor. In a recently published study, the 10 most common smiles were analyzed to decipher what feelings they contain. Anthology in our slideshow below.

Of the 19 types of existing smiles, only six of them truly express a feeling of happiness and joy. Elsewhere, we find emotions such as fear, anger, disgust, embarrassment, sympathy or even surprise.

“Most of the time, a smile is an unconscious reaction. When we’re happy, we smile. When we’re sad, we frown. But when we want to appear affable, kind, or welcoming, most of us force ourselves to smile. . We do it automatically and unconsciously,” says Edoardo Binda Zane.
