The various 2023 budget bills have been adopted, and set the procedure for the payment of aid by the end of the year. Faced with galloping inflation and soaring energy prices, many French people find themselves in need, especially since winter does not help energy bills.

The figures published by the Restos du Cœur bear witness to the progress of precariousness in France. Food insecurity is affecting more and more households: since April, Restos have welcomed 12% more beneficiaries, according to La Nouvelle République. Laurence Champier, director of the Food Banks of France network, gives a very representative inventory of the seriousness and urgency of the situation: the use of food banks has increased as much over the last 6 months as in two years of Covid.

The Restos du Cœur are calling for donations more than ever: the rise in prices is also affecting them, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to maintain the pace of aid and the quantity of food offered. A non-negligible detail: the president of the Restos du Cœur underlined the fact that most of the donors themselves come from modest homes, and therefore probably will not be able to continue to give as much given the economic context.

Faced with this situation, the Executive decided to set up targeted aid, as part of the presidential strategy of the “purchasing power package”.
