China National Nuclear Corp. said its nuclear power unit which uses Hualong One, a third-generation atomic reactor, began commercial operations on Saturday.
The reactor, situated in town of Fuqing town in China’s southeastern Fujian province, was developed to possess a 60-year lifespan, using its center gear domestically produced. Each unit of this Hualong No. 1 has a potential of 1.161 million kilowatts and will satisfy the yearly domestic power demand of 1 million individuals in moderately developed nations, based on China National Nuclear Corp, or CNNC.
“With Hualong One on line, China is currently in the forefront of third-generation atomic technologies on the planet, alongside countries such as the United States, France and Russia,” explained CNNC President Yu Jianfeng.
Yu said the industrial usage of Hualong One will also reduce carbon emissions and help reach China’s low-carbon goals like carbon neutrality before 2060.
Another Hualong One unit is supposed to be finished later this season.
