For most holidaymakers, alcohol and Mallorca went together like pizza and cheese. Since May 11, 2024, however, a different wind has been blowing on the popular Balearic island.

On Playa de Palma, where the Ballermann is also located, in the party hotspot Magaluf and in El Arenal, alcohol consumption on the street is now prohibited – regardless of whether you are traveling alone or in a group.

Rules of etiquette intended to steer Mallorca away from its party reputation have been in place for a long time, but now they have been tightened to such an extent that penalties are threatened.

If you as a holidaymaker do not adhere to the new regulations of the Spanish authorities and drink a beer on the beach or a cocktail to go on public property, you will have to pay a fine of 500 to 1,500 euros.

But you don’t have to go without wine with dinner. In restaurants and bars you are of course still allowed to sit outside on the terrace and drink alcohol. The alcohol ban does not apply to party boats either, although it has been stipulated that they are not allowed to come within more than one nautical mile of the beach.
