CFL Draft | The Alouettes dared

During the CFL draft, the dilemma is between taking the best player available and the best player who will play in the Ambrosie circuit. The Alouettes preferred the first option.

With their two first-round picks, the Sparrows have set their sights on players with hopes of playing in the NFL in Jonathan Sutherland and Lwal Uguak.

Sutherland, a defensive back, was selected with the fifth overall pick. First ignored by the NFL draft, he agreed with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent moments after the auction.

The Ottawan, who wore the colors of Penn State University, signed a pact in the NFL earning him $ 210,000 upon signing according to TSN.

Two selections later, the Alouettes selected Uguak, a defensive lineman. The Edmonton native was invited to New York Giants rookie camp.

The seventh pick was obtained from the BC Lions in exchange for quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.

With the first pick of the draft, the Ottawa Redblacks selected offensive lineman Dontae Bull from Fresno State University. It was the first time Ottawa had picked No. 1 since 2015.

Quebec linebacker Michael Brodrique was selected second overall by the Edmonton Elks. The 24-year-old was the University of Montreal Carabins’ color bearer during his university days.

The one who was named to the RSEQ defensive all-star team in 2022 was ranked 11th in the final prospect rankings.

Earlier Tuesday, the Montreal club drafted Swedish defensive lineman Simon Sandberg with their first pick, fifth overall, in the Canadian Tour’s world draft.

The six-foot-three, 295-pound footballer received a Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention in 2022 with the Oregon State University Beavers, collecting 17 tackles, including two for losses in 13 games as a starter. The athlete from Karlstad also knocked down two assists.

The Alouettes then selected Australian kicker Rhys Byrns in the second round (14th overall).

Byrns (six-foot, 191 lbs.) was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Star Team in his final two seasons with the Lousiana-Lafayette University Ragin Cajuns, as he led the conference with an average of 46.3 yards per punt, including 19 punts for more than 50 yards.
