A beautiful holiday in the sun can quickly turn into a nightmare because of transport. Indeed, air travel has experienced many difficulties since the beginning of the summer. Whether it’s because of the heat wave, strikes, or simple cancellations, you have to react differently depending on the situation in order to get a refund or get another ticket. Whether it is a European flight cancellation or not, the traveler can choose at least a refund according to the government site.

For European flights, there are other rights. It is possible to benefit from another ticket if the flight is departing from the European Union, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland. For example, Transavia, the Air France subsidiary which is particularly affected by flight cancellations at the moment, offers an alternative “as far as possible, on another date or another time”.

In all cases, the company must offer rerouting on another flight to the desired final destination, under the same conditions. As a passenger, it is quite possible to refuse the alternatives offered by the company. In this case, it must refund the passenger’s ticket within seven days.

In the event of reimbursement, compensation must be offered to the traveler within the framework of European regulations which set the amount, depending on the length of the canceled flight. You can receive compensation of 250 euros for flights of less than 1500km, 400 euros for flights of 1500 to 3500km and finally up to 600 euros for flights of more than 3500km.

To request this compensation, the complaint must be sent by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to the customer service department of the airline in question. There are other rights and compensation depending on the nature of the inconvenience: overbooking, delay etc. Report or compensation request forms are available on the public service website by following this link.
