(Halifax) Joan Clark, renowned Canadian writer and member of the Order of Canada, has died at the age of 88.

Ms. Clark has authored over 15 books for adults and children, including An Audience of Chairs, Latitudes of Mel and The Dream Carvers.

At least three of his novels have been translated into French: La Fille blanche; The Hand of Robin Squires: The Mystery of Oak Island and The Sculptors of Dreams.

Born in 1934 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Ms. Clark lived for a time in New Brunswick and Alberta before moving to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

She has received multiple awards for her writing and was awarded the Order of Canada in 2010.

According to Penguin Random House Canada, Ms. Clark was a central figure in the Canadian literary scene and her passing will affect all who share her love of discovery.

WritersNL, formerly known as the Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador, expressed sadness, as Ms. Clark was a longtime member of the group.

We will “eternally cherish his creativity, his energy and his contribution to literature,” both in the province and in the country as a whole, the organization said.
