(Montreal) Negotiations continued Monday between the Unifor union and the Canadian National (CN) in order to avoid the strike.

The Unifor union already has strong strike mandates, with 97% and 98% of its membership secured, depending on the local union involved.

Unifor represents over 3,000 union members at Canadian National Railway Company (CN). They work in different departments: mechanical, intermodal, facilities management, offices, all across the country.

Again on Monday, the parties met for an intensive negotiation session, after having discussed during the weekend. Before entering this bargaining session on Monday, Unifor referred to “another difficult week of bargaining” when talking about the past week.

Negotiations had started last fall; Unifor had filed for conciliation in mid-December.

The relevant collective agreements expired on December 31.
