Canadian manufacturing sales climbed 4.1% in January

(OTTAWA) Canadian manufacturing sales rose 4.1% to $73.9 billion in January from a month earlier, fueled by gains in petroleum and coal products and motor vehicles, Statistics reported Tuesday. Canada.

In constant dollars, manufacturing sales rose 3.8% in January, meaning higher sales volumes played a significant role in the increase in current dollar sales, the federal agency said.

Gains were recorded in 16 of the 21 industries surveyed by Statistics Canada.

Motor vehicle sales advanced for a third consecutive month, gaining 13.4% to 4.8 billion in January. This was their highest value since July 2020.

According to the federal agency, sales of petroleum and coal products rose 10.1% to 10.3 billion in January, after falling for the previous two months.

Output in the aerospace products and parts industry fell 11.2% to $1.6 billion in January, after posting strong gains in December, Statistics Canada said.
