Midfielders Jessie Fleming and Stephen Eustaquio were named Soccer Canada Players of the Year.

The two winners were chosen by Canadian media representatives and coaches for their performances with the national team and their respective clubs.

Fleming, who won this honor for the third consecutive year, plays for the English club Chelsea. Eustquio plays for FC Porto in Portugal.

The 25-year-old Fleming is seen as the favorite to replace Christine Sinclair as captain of the Canadian women’s team. Sinclair, 40, played his final international matches earlier this month.

This is the first time Eustaquio has been honored, ending the three-year reign of Alphonso Davies, who has won the honor in four of the last five years.

Davies finished second in this year’s voting, ahead of Jonathan David. Former CF Montreal players Alistair Johnston and Ismaël Koné completed the top 5.

For the ladies, Cloé Lacasse, Ashley Lawrence, Vanessa Gilles and Adriana Leon followed Fleming in the rankings.
