(London) Canada will face quite a challenge as they face Spain and Poland in Group C in the Billie Jean King Cup finals, the draw on Wednesday revealed morning in London.

Spain, the host country of the event, is notably the third seed of the tournament. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals will take place in Seville, November 7-12, 2023.

This will be the sixth time that Spain will host the event, and the first since 2008. The contract between the federation and the region of Andalusia comes with an option for a third year.

For its part, Canada will participate in the finals of this competition for the third year in a row.

“Once again, we will be part of a very good group,” said Canadian team captain Heidi El Tabakh. However, I am confident that we have all the power to compete with the best nations in the world and we look forward to proving it on the court soon. »

Last April, the Canadians secured their ticket to the Billie Jean King Cup finals after beating Belgium 3-2 in their qualifying match in Vancouver. It was the first time in four matches that Canada had beaten Belgium at the Women’s World Cup.

Leylah Fernandez and Gabriela Dabrowski sealed Canada’s ticket to the finals with a straight-set, 6-1, 6-2 win over Kirsten Flipkens and Greet Minnen in doubles. Rebecca Marino and Katherine Sebov also contributed to the victory for the maple leaf representatives.
