Kicker Joseph Zema has agreed to a contract extension with the Montreal Alouettes until the conclusion of the 2024 season, the team announced in a press release Tuesday.

Zema, a six-foot, 215-pound player, finished fourth in the CFL in 2022 with an average of 47.3 yards per punt, in addition to fending off opponents inside their 10-yard line 10 times – the third-highest total on the circuit.

The 28-year-old Australian also ranked third with an average of 38.1 net yards (punting yards minus opponent’s return yards). The Alouettes selected Zema in the first round, sixth overall, in the 2021 CFL International Draft. He will begin his third season with the Birds in a few weeks.

The Alouettes have also announced that they have released American defensive back Kenneth Durden.
