It all starts with a concerned husband calling for help. On the afternoon of Friday July 22, 2022, a man called the fire department, worried that his wife would not come home. According to information from France Bleu Occitanie, the Aude gendarmes intervened around 5 p.m. at the couple’s home in the small village of Sassigne, about twenty kilometers north of Carcassonne… And discovered the lifeless body of the 81-year-old woman in her freezer. La Dépêche du Midi, for its part, indicates that the body was discovered on Saturday morning.
If the circumstances of this tragedy remain extremely unclear, we already know that an investigation has been opened with the Carcassonne prosecutor’s office to determine the causes of the octogenarian’s death. She was entrusted to the research brigade of the Carcassonne gendarmerie, according to the prosecution, who also specified that an autopsy of the victim’s body should be carried out in the coming days.
According to La Dépêche du Midi, the death of the victim could be very recent, the latter having been seen for the last time at the itinerant fish market from Conques which stops in Salsigne on Friday morning. The husband of the octogenarian was heard as a witness, and no police custody has yet been pronounced.
“The couple had gradually renovated their home. In the town, they were known, at least by sight: ‘We greeted each other when we passed each other’, testifies a resident”, adds the regional daily.
